

Getting Around
Sydney has a comprehensive and efficient public transport network that includes trains, buses, ferries, light rail, and metro services. These services are operated by Transport for NSW and are well-integrated for easy travel across the city and surrounding regions.
A reusable smart card used to pay for travel on all public transport modes. Available at train stations, airport terminals, convenience stores, and online.
Visitors can also use contactless-enabled Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or mobile wallets (e.g., Apple Pay, Google Pay) to tap on and off at Opal readers.
Daily and weekly fare caps apply, making travel affordable. For example, the daily cap for adults is $19.30 from Monday to Thursday and $9.65 from Friday to Sunday. The weekly cap is $50.
Transport Modes
- Trains: Connect the CBD with suburbs and regional areas. Central Station is the main hub.
- Buses: Extensive coverage, including NightRide services from midnight to 4:30am.
- Ferries: Operate across Sydney Harbour, including routes to Manly, Parramatta, and Circular Quay.
- Light Rail: Includes the Inner West line (L1) and CBD & South East lines (L2, L3).
- Metro: Australia’s first driverless train system, currently serving the North West to CBD.
